Event: Researching the Agricultural Literature
Speaker: Ruth Gustafson, Bio/Ag Sciences Librarian - Shields Library
Description: Learn how to search efficiently in the OvidSP version of the three core agricultural databases: CAB Abstracts, Agricola, and Food Sciences and Technology Abstracts. The unique scope and content of each database will be reviewed. Researchers in the farm animal (including veterinary), entomological (pest), fruit and vegetable crop, farming systems, food sciences and technology, viticulture and enology, and human nutrition areas will find these databases to be the most pertinent to their research needs. Relevant e-book collections will also be discussed. Topics covered include: keyword, author and title searching; using the wildcard and common limits; and using the thesaurus, indexes, and search history features. Current awareness (update/alert) services, how to use UC-eLinks, and how to cross-search databases simultaneously will also be discussed. Bonus topic: Journal Citation Reports, which indicate the top journals in each discipline.
